24th June 2010

Dear Ms Mason,

My wife, Satoko Yamamoto and I
, Min Jeh Kim have been residing at College Square Lygon St, Carlton, since 1, March, 2010 and had not experienced any problems during our tenancy until yesterday afternoon. As discussed during our meeting this morning, we feel that our privacy and the terms of our rental agreement were violated by a workman entering our residence on 23rd June 2010, without giving the appropriate amount of notice.

My wife had just emerged from changing when a repairman opened the door and entered our home after knocking only once. According to the Residential Tenancies Act 1997, YMCA is supposed to give 24 hours written notice to tenants if management or workmen require entrance into tenants’ premises. Unfortunately, no oral or written notices were received advising that repairs would be made to our sink cabinet so we were unprepared for his arrival.

Please consider the consequences for both my family and the workman if my wife had been taking a shower at that time. The situation has caused undue stress to the both of us. My wife also told him that we would be away for 2 weeks from next week but he said he could come in again to fix the problem at anytime because he had keys. Neither of us is comfortable with the situation where a repairman can enter our home at anytime, particularly when we are away.

Would you please advise why your employee appears to have unrestricted access to our home and how we can be sure that our safety and privacy is not invaded in the future.

I hope you give this situation the serious attention it deserves.

Yours sincerely,

Min Jeh Kim
